My Story

I was born in Portage la Prairie, Manitoba to a single mother who immigrated to Canada from Taiwan, the Republic of China in 1980.  Shortly after I was born, we moved to Winnipeg. My first job was at McDonalds, where I am grateful to have learned the values of teamwork, organization and superior service. After graduating from high school, I studied to receive a diploma in Legal Administrative Assistant from Robertson College in 2001. I worked as a Legal Assistant for two large corporate commercial law firms in Downtown Winnipeg for 14 years.

Together with my husband, we are currently raising our two young children in the community, together with my mother. I am a sixteen-time Manitoba armwrestling provincial champion (both left and right arms!) and have been awarded 10 gold medals at the Canadian National Armwrestling championships. I first got involved in the sport of armwrestling when Mike Pagtakhan introduced me to the Manitoba Armwrestling Association in December 2015. I currently volunteer as the President of the Manitoba Armwrestling Association and Secretary-Treasurer for the Canadian Armwrestling Federation.

I first entered City Hall as a volunteer and later staff to previous Mayor Brian Bowman in 2014. I transitioned from the Mayor’s Office and worked as Executive Assistant to Councillor Mike Pagtakhan for 3 years.  On October 24, 2018, I successfully won the 2018 Civic Election to become the first female City Councillor for the Point Douglas Ward, as well as the first Taiwan-Chinese Canadian to be elected to Winnipeg’s City Council.
